Hi there, Jim Devine would indeed be a good starting point, particularly if your primarily interested in QTVR (which is 2D imaging that uses clever animation and perspective tricks to give the illusion of 3D). If you would also like to investigate 3D imaging (i.e. actually scanning objects in three dimensions), David Jillings at the British Museum and John Benfield at the Natural History Museum have both done work with 3D object scanning.
