"Changing the Record" from UKMARC to MARC 21: a series of familiarisation
seminars.

The UK Library and information community are moving apace towards the
implementation of MARC 21 and the replacement of UKMARC. For many concerned
with bibliographic services and processing, the transition will represent
one of the most significant events in the last twenty years. To assist this
move, a series of seminars have been organised across the UK by:-

BIC (Book Industry Communication) Bibliographic Standards Technical
Subgroup, in association with the British Library and CILIP CIG (Cataloguing
and Indexing Group).

The aims of each seminar will be:-

To raise awareness of the forthcoming transition from UKMARC to MARC 21
To identify and outline the principal strategic and technical issues
arising from MARC 21 implementation
To familiarise UK users with key aspects of MARC 21.
To outline the main structural differences between MARC 21 and UKMARC

The seminars will appeal to systems and bibliographic services librarians,
and all those with a responsibility for the implementation of MARC 21 in
their organisations. Note however that these seminars are not intended as
cataloguing training courses.
