Yours sincerely Barbara Stratton Adviser, Copyright and Information Development The Library Association, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE Tel: +44 (0)20 7255 0500 Fax: +44 (0)20 7255 0501 Textphone: +44 (0)20 7255 0505 General email: [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> Web: www.la-hq.org.uk/ <http://www.la-hq.org.uk/> The Library Association Copyright Alliance Commercial Research Copying Blow Meeting 12th February 2002 No copying for commercial research will be allowed when the Copyright Directive is implemented into UK law at the end of 2002. (Library Association Record January 2002, p3). LACA is arranging a meeting for libraries affected by this change to discuss what the problems are likely to be. Correspondents have indicated that this will result not only in crippling administrative burdens but will also lead to serious loss of income for not-for-profit organisations supplying copies under library privilege which in turn will lead to a consequential reduction in the level of journal subscriptions. Venue: Charter Room East, Library Association HQ (address below) Time: 4pm We hope to be able to invite a representative from The Patent Office Copyright Directorate to hear your views. Members of LACA will also be present. How to participate If you wish to attend to put forward your library or information service's viewpoint please complete the form below and post, fax or e-mail (with 'Commercial Copying Meeting' in the subject line) it for the attention of Barbara Stratton, Adviser, Copyright and Information Development at The Library Association.
