Thanks Martin (and others) - that sounds like the same problem as we have.
Yes, I forgot to say we use Internet Explorer here. The policy here is not
to use Netscape and IE is the supported browser.
If our technical people or yours find the solution, perhaps we could swap
info.
Perhaps it's a SwetnetNavigator (and CUP) problem?

Hi Sandra,

We also have a problem on our public cluster PCs when viewing
PDFs via Adobe on SwetsNnetNavigator. The problem for us is that
we get blank pages when viewing through Internet Explorer but
not when viewing through Netscape. This does not happen on staff
PCs and our technical people are investigating at the moment. We
have put a note on our gateway web page for students in the
meantime which advises them to use Netscape,
