Position Description.  Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice
President for Academic Affairs, the Dean serves as the chief academic
and administrative officer of the College.  The Dean is regarded as
an intellectual leader within the College and across the University
and regional communities.  The Dean sets the vision for the College
within the University's strategic plan, establishes new opportunities
for the College, and directs its growth and development through
shared academic governance.  The Dean participates in campus-wide
planning and is responsible for the College's teaching quality,
budget, development and allocation of resources, and the
administration of academic and research programs and alumni
relations.  The Dean communicates official business of the College
with University authorities, faculty, students, staff, and external
constituencies and provides leadership in fund-raising to augment
state appropriations.  The position is a 12-month appointment, and
the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
Qualifications:
o Earned doctorate and an exemplary record including teaching,
scholarship, and service appropriate to appointment to the rank of
tenured full professor in one of the departments of the College.
o Demonstrated successful leadership in higher education at or above
the department chair level, including budget and personnel experience.
o Grant experience and demonstrated skills and desire to lead a broad
and intensive revenue enhancement effort through
fund-raising/grants/contracts.
o Experience with strategic planning and program development.
o Ability to function successfully in and promote an environment of
collegiality and diversity.
o Active involvement in professional organizations.
o Commitment to successful outreach with external stakeholders.
o Knowledge of trends and issues challenging higher education.
  Screening of applications begins October 18, 2002, and continues
until the position is filled.  Preferred starting date is July 1,
