Freelance Education Worker
Outreach Archaeology Project
Project contract fee;
£1,780 for 124 hours work, over 6 months.
(Some Saturday working will be required).
Redbridge Museum is looking for a freelance interpreter/ education worker with an interest in archaeology to work on an outreach project called
“Out on Site” taking place between August 2002 and January 2003.
The outreach project will tour the borough visiting all Redbridge Library sites and a range of community centres. In partnership with the Museum of London, the project will take hands-on archaeological and conservation activities out into the borough and offer groups an opportunity to engage with original artefacts and to find out more about local and London heritage. This rewarding post will involve work with a range of user groups including families, hospital patients, elderly people and special needs children and adults. As part of the project hours, the project worker will also be responsible for setting up basic evaluation systems to monitor the success of the project.
Applicants should have good communication skills, relevant work experience with people of different ages and abilities and an interest in and enthusiasm for archaeology, conservation and local history.
The project hours will start in August 2002 and run through until January 2003 but the post is being advertised now in order to confirm the project dates with the freelance worker.

Experience of speaking to and explaining topics to public groups.
An enthusiasm for archaeology, local history and for working with the public.
Clear communication skills and the ability to deal with public queries and complaints.
Experience or an aptitude for working with a wide range of people from some or all of the following groups: Children of all ages and families, the elderly, children and adults with special needs/learning difficulties, patients in hospitals.
Basic computer skills in word processing and/or spreadsheet packages.
Practical experience or understanding of archaeological or conservation methods.
Experience or an aptitude for designing systems of evaluation with a wide range of users.
