The normal teaching load is three courses per semester and English is the language of instruction. Salary and rank are according to scale based on qualifications and professional experience. The American University in Cairo is seeking a director for its successful program in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies (FMRS), to begin in or around January 2003. The FMRS offers a one-year postgraduate diploma, among other activities. The program is multidisciplinary, drawing from anthropology, communications, political science, psychology, refugee law, and sociology. The director's tasks include supervising the diploma teaching (and teaching one course per semester), directing the research program, organizing the outreach program, and fundraising. The successful applicant will have a PhD in hand and demonstrable experience in the area of refugee studies broadly understood. Administrative experience in similar programs and ability to speak Arabic are definite advantages. Rank is open; salary is commensurate with experience.
