Call for Proposals: Economics Learning and Teaching Handbook
============================================================
http://www.economics.ltsn.ac.uk/advice/handbook.htm
Closing date: 8th March

The Economics Centre of the Learning and Teaching Support
Network (Economics LTSN) is seeking academic economists to
do freelance work to help create a new resource for the UK
economics community.

The work would involve authoring or editing short guides,
of approximately 8000 words each, on aspects of teaching
practice in economics. Each guide would follow a basic
structure:

* Introduction
* Main content
* Top tips
* A summary of relevant pedagogical research
* A couple of short case studies
* References

The guides would be gathered together in a single volume to
be distributed to each UK HE economics department for the
start of the next academic year. It would also be made
available on the Economics LTSN Web site.

We therefore require economists with expertise in one or
more of the areas of learning and teaching practice listed
below and who have experience of working in the HE sector.
The guides are grouped under the headings of teaching,
assessment, evaluation of teaching and course design.

Teaching
---------
* Lectures (already allocated)
* Tutorials and Seminars
* Workshops
* Problem-Based Learning
* Using the Web in teaching
* Games, Simulations and role playing
* Case Studies
* Virtual Learning Environments

Assessment
----------
* Alternative forms of formative and summative assessment
* Peer assessment
* Group assessment
* Computer-aided Assessment

Evaluation of teaching
----------------------
* Questionnaires
* Peer-Observation

Course Design
-------------
* Designing undergraduate degree programmes
* Subject Benchmarking
* Key Skills

You are invited to submit proposals to write up to two
guides or to edit one of the above four groups of guides.
Authors will be paid £1,500 for authoring the intellectual
content of each guide (before tax and national insurance
contributions).

Editors will be paid for editing the intellectual content
of all the guides under their nominated heading and writing
a general introduction to the section. They would be
expected to be available for consultation by the authors of
the guides within that category. The payment for editors is
as follows (before tax and national insurance
contributions):

£4,000 - Teaching
£2,000 - Assessment
£1,500 - Course Design
£1,000 - Evaluation

This work can be done in your own time and from any
location, but it is essential that you work to the
timescales and deadlines detailed. There will be an
author's/editor's workshop at the end of March which
contributors will be strongly encouraged to attend. The
major period of work will be between March and the end of
June 2002 (for authors) or the end of July (for editors)
2002.

Closing date: 8th March
