**apologies for cross posting** Video streaming: a new pedagogical approach A one-day workshop from ALT and Click and Go Video Date: 11 July 2002 Time: 1000 -1600 Venue: Manchester Metropolitan University Cost: Stlg 80 (ALT members), stlg 130 (non-members) Booking deadline: 27 June 2002 OVERVIEW The use of streaming digital video is rapidly becoming a viable option for higher education and in training. Via a web browser ‘streaming’ video clips can be linked to slides, text conferencing, video conferencing and other applications. This seamless integration offers an unprecedented opportunity to move away from predominantly text-based information and communication technologies (ICT) to establish the moving image as a focus for student activity. Despite its long history, video and particularly its new streaming incarnation still lacks an established ‘pedagogic space’ within mainstream e-learning. The purpose of this workshop is to explore collectively the pedagogic potential, strengths and weaknesses of video streaming as a key component of e-learning. Note this is not a technical ‘how to’ workshop. This is a discussion- based workshop which will facilitate the sharing of ideas on the pedagogy of streaming video. TOPICS TO BE COVERED The workshop will cover a range of themes including: * the pedagogic uses of video and audio streaming * the educational value of video * video as a tool for student activity * video integrated with other media * case studies (participants' experiences) * research issues (what we know and what we need to find out) EXPECTED OUTCOMES Participants will be able to engage with the presenters’ research and practical experiences around the pedagogic value and use of video streaming. Participants will collectively share and discuss the pedagogic potential of video steaming. The expected outcomes are: * to increase the awareness and repertoire of video-centred learning strategies * to initiate a community of interest for further collaboration and research WHO SHOULD ATTEND The workshop will be particularly useful for teaching staff, practitioners, researchers, and trainers with an interest in using video streaming for mainstream e-learning.
