Lending Time Project Manager
  1. Apologies to those of you who had difficulties in receiving the George Padmore leaflet I sent – will not send such “heavy” material in future, only word files.
  2. I will also not sent items to both the lists in future, but only to DiversityList as there seems to be a lot of crossing between the two.  Perhaps Rajiv can decide what items he thinks would be useful for the CDN and forward it to them.
  3. There are a number of posts available at Merton – the details of one of them are given below.  Look out for adverts in the “Library & Information Update” vacancy supplement for 2 more posts: Library & Service Manager (Ethnic Minority Services) and Library & Service Manager (Audience Development) – to be out in August.  Check out some views on Merton libraries in the current issue of “Library & Information Update”.

Lending Time Project Manager
Programme/Project: CSV Consulting/Lending Time
Starting Salary: £21,840 p.a. (inc OLW), CSV Scale M1

Do you agree that libraries can be much more than buildings that house books? CSV Consulting's newest project, Lending Time, aims to demonstrate how volunteers can strengthen and enrich public library services for library staff, users and local communities. In six partner library services and local authorities, the project will expand levels of volunteer involvement and build the capacity of library services to involve more volunteers.

This venture currently needs a Project Manager to set up, develop and maintain all aspects of the local service delivery of the Lending Time project in the London Borough of Merton. The postholder will be expected to use their imagination and flair to create opportunities for linking libraries with local projects and initiatives through volunteering.

Varied tasks are involved and include developing new volunteer activities and projects, promoting and marketing, recruiting and managing volunteers, establishing and maintaining community partnerships and ensuring the effective and successful delivery of the Lending Time project.
The successful applicant must be a self-starter with experience of developing and managing projects. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with others to achieve goals. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to, a belief in and knowledge of volunteering and bring innovative and creative approaches to problem solving.

The post is currently funded until 2005 from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the Active Community Unit and a Trust Fund.
