Communications Officer, Diversity Project

Fixed Term Contract until March 2004

Salary £28,123 pro rata per annum

Here at the Arts Council, we're looking for people to help us achieve our mission of developing, sustaining and championing the arts. One such mission is the Diversity Project - a major national multi-million pound strategic initiative that will run until March 2004.

This is one of the most significant programmes in a generation because it seeks to empower artists and arts organisations from diverse cultural backgrounds.  The Council has recognised that many arts practitioners from African, Asian* and Caribbean communities are under-represented in terms of the funding allocations it makes and there are a number of programmes which seek to redress the balance and bring it in line with the Council's Cultural Diversity Action Plan.

We are now looking to recruit an experienced Communications Officer to work with the Communications Manager to implement a Communications Strategy for an exciting programme of activities ranging from promoting festivals and events to high profile national seminars/conferences.

As Communications Officer you will have an active role in developing and implementing a national communications campaign for this for multi-million pound arts initiative. You will assist the Communications Manager with the delivery of internal and external communications, marketing and media liaison for the Diversity Project.

You will have experience in, and a flair for, press and/or marketing, preferably in the arts or a related industry.

The post also requires highly developed time management skills and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You must work well as part of a team.

A good understanding of the arts and arts funding sector is essential as well as an understanding of current and emergent developments in diverse arts policy and practice

*Asian in this context is taken to meet the continent of Asia from Turkey in the west to Japan in the East.

If you believe the arts are important and want to work in a dynamic organisation, we'd like to hear from you.

Closing date:  Thursday 18 July 2002 at 12.00 noon
