Hi,
I have been working very closely with the Leicester
Somaliland Community and have set up and run four weeks on two sites (using City
Learning Centres) of summer school activities. Work has included literacy
work, web work and two weeks of theatre workshops where the children have been
encouraged to share their feelings and attitudes to a number of issues,
including relating stories from their lives. We have collected a large
amount of audio, visual and written material (in raw form at the
moment).
I'd be keen to hear from any members that have
worked with Somali Communities with a view to setting up links between
Leicester's community and others. We would also be prepared to share material
for any joint project.
We're not sure how we will present the material yet
and the community themselves will be key in deciding how we move
forward.
