***APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING***
MSc/PgDip in Criminal Justice
This course is offered through the Glasgow Graduate School of Law, a
joint venture of the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde. Available
for part and full-time evening study, the MSc/PgDip has been designed
with a number of aims:
- to introduce students to the full range of issues and approaches to
the study of criminal justice
- to give the student a solid grounding in theoretical issues relating
to criminal justice, criminology and criminal law
- to give all students a basic introduction to research methods in
criminal justice and
- to allow the student the greatest freedom to pursue and develop their
own research interests (through negotiated study modules and the
dissertation) within the framework of a taught masters degree
The teaching team includes academic staff from the Departments of
Social Policy and Social Work, Sociology and the School of Law (both
institutions). This interdisciplinary focus reflects one of the key
strengths of the course, and extends into the range of students we aim to
attract. As well as criminology, sociology and law graduates, last year’s
course included Fiscal Service staff, lawyers, prison staff and criminal
justice social workers. The diverse insights, experiences and skills of
this variety of criminal justice practitioners contributed to a
stimulating and challenging learning environment.
