HOW TO PRACTISE EVIDENCE-BASED CARE FOR CHILDREN
3 DAY SHORT COURSE
11-13 DECEMBER 2002

Venue:  Institute of Child Health, London

This course aims to help practitioners become more efficient at using the
best available evidence in their day to day decisions about patients and
clients.  It introduces participants to the skills required for
evidence-based practice including how to:

. frame answerable questions from practice or policy problems
. find the best available evidence to answer the question
. critically appraise research for its validity and usefulness
. incorporate findings into decisions

The course consists of plenary seminars, small group problem-solving &
appraisal sessions and practicals on literature searching. Key features
include multi-professional learning, high tutor-student ratio and
opportunites for hands-on searching of scientific literature with tutor
support.

Tutors include Ruth Gilbert and Stuart Logan from the Centre for
Evidence-Based Child Health and Brian Sheldon from the Centre for
Evidence-Based Social Services.

Who should attend?

The course is based on clinical and policy problems in child health and
psychosocial care, and is relevant to professionals from all sectors of the
health and social services, particularly those whose work is related to
children eg: paediatricians, social workers, psychologists, PAMs, health
visitors, nurses, general practitioners, managers, therapists, purchasers
and researchers from consumer groups.
