Geraldine I like the irony of the revised thread title: 'no subject' being exactly what the English aren't! As in not legally citizens, despite the proclamations of our passports. We all 'belong' to the Crown. There are no 'inalienable rights' in this here land. But this matter of representative anthologies, oh yes, I'm still pondering it, this closely living together country has such a weird frigidity lurking in its heart, the distance of class is the other side of its proximities of population. I dunno, I still can't formulate an adequate response to the issues your posts have raised, I'm all too aware that they exist, but what to do? what to say? I suppose Ian has certainly discouraged any latent desire I may have had to see how an English anthology would pan out. It's one thing being excluded from another country's anthology but quite another to be excluded from your own! (As indeed most of us on this list would probably be if there was an English Anth - you can see it now, Us: 'Move over Motion, let us in' - Motion: 'Fook orf yer werking class oiks you're disturbing my lemsip). It is though quite an oddity that England is probably the only country in the world that couldn't have its own anth. So there's a good subject for a phd 'Why the English can never has a poetry Anthology'. Maybe with the subtitle 'Who cares?' Keep talking kids - I'm listening inbetween life studies and the cellar crusades. Best to all you little Earthlings, Without boundaries, G.
