Something old, something new:  ARLIS UK and Ireland study visit to
Coventry

Come and see some of the oldest and newest in Coventry architecture in
one day!

The visit combines a morning tour of the new Lanchester Library, a
ground-breaking highly energy efficient building, with an afternoon
visit to the St Mary's Priory Visitor Centre and other archaeological
sites in the City Centre.
The morning visit will be led by Stephanie Silvester, art librarian at
Coventry University, and the afternoon visit by Richard Morris, formerly
of the History of Art Department, University of Warwick.

Date:  Monday 16 September 2002
Time:  10.30 - 15.30 approx
Venue:   Lanchester Library, Frederick Lanchester Building, Coventry

               Gosford St, Coventry, CV1 5DD
               and in the afternoon:  St Mary's Visitor Centre,
Coventry City Centre

FEE:    £35 ( to include, tea/coffee, lunch and all expenses)


PROGRAMME

* 14.00 -  15.30    St Mary's Visitor Centre

The afternoon visit will be in three parts: (1) the new Priory Visitor
Centre to discuss the
finds displayed there from the recent excavations; (2) the adjacent
site of
the nave of the medieval cathedral priory church of St Mary, now laid
out as
a garden as part of the Coventry Phoenix Initiative project; and (3)
the
immediately surrounding area, including Holy Trinity Church, to set in
context the medieval priory and the current redevelopment of this part
of
Coventry city centre.
Some of you will remember Richard Morris from the ARLIS UK and Ireland
Conference at Warwick in 1999, or from the recent Time Team programmes
on the Coventry excavations.   It promises to be an interesting day.
