VISIT TO THE ADVERTISING ASSOCIATION INFORMATION CENTRE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Multimedia & Information Technology Group (Mmit) invites you to
visit the Advertising Association Information Centre (AAIC)
2pm on 7th March 2003

The Advertising Association is a federation of 25 trade bodies representing the
advertising and promotional marketing industries including advertisers,
agencies, media and support services. Further information about the AA, its
membership and remit is available from http://www.adassoc.org.uk

Its remit concerns the mutual interests of the business as a whole. It
operates in a complementary way with the vested interests of its members who
have specific roles for their individual sectors.

The AA speaks as 'the common voice' for all on:

* Promoting public understanding of, and respect for, commercial
  communication and its role in promoting competition, innovation and economic
  and social progress in society;
* Upholding standards and the principle of self-regulation;
* Providing information, research and statistics about the advertising
  business;
* Combating unjustified restrictions and outright bans on commercial
  communication for freely and legally available products or services.

The Advertising Association exists to provide a co-ordinated service in
the interests of its wider membership, i.e. the individual companies that make
up this large, diverse and competitive business.

Its remit is 'to promote and protect the rights, responsibilities and
role of advertising' in the UK. This is in line with Article 10 of the European
Convention on Human Rights, which recognises commercial freedom of speech as a
right, alongside political and artistic freedoms of speech.
