VAN EyCK - CONTENT UPDATE

VAN EyCK, the Visual Arts Network for the Exchange of Cultural Knowledge
(www.vaneyck.org ) is a highly accessible, continuously expanding online art
object database, bringing together the collections of diverse contributing
institutes. VAN EyCK is operated by the VAN EyCK foundation, a
not-for-profit organization which seeks to enable access to information in
the domain of the visual arts.
.
The VAN EyCK Foundation is pleased to announce the expansion of the scope of
VAN EyCK to include Hungarian art. The works which will be featured will
give a fair impression of Hungarian art as it developed over the centuries,
from the Romanesque period to the mid 20th century, with an emphasis on the
19th and 20th century. Because of the magnitude of the undertaking, the
expansion will proceed in phases, the first of which will encompass art from
the period 1918-1939. The works of art which will be featured will largely -
though not exclusively - be paintings.

The objects which will be featured are from the collections of the Hungarian
National Gallery (MNG) in Budapest. This museum records the development of
Hungarian art, and prides itself on such collections as the Medieval and
Renaissance stone exhibition (11th-16th century), Gothic wood sculptures and
pictures (14th-15th century), late Gothic altars (15th-16th century),
Renaissance and Baroque art (1550-1800), paintings, sculptures and medals
from the 19th and 20th century.

The catalog records (the textual information) will be validated by the
Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
(Budapest).
