THE BRISTOL INQUIRY.

Nicky Best (Imperial College, London)

Royal Statistical Society Avon Local Group Meeting
(joint with the Department of Social Medicine)
Thursday the 16th of May 4:00pm

Room G6, Canynge Hall, Dept. of Social Medicine, University of
Bristol.

Abstract:

The speaker and co-authors were commissioned by the public inquiry
into paediatric cardiac surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary to
carry out a statistical comparison of surgical outcomes between
centres. This talk will discuss the analytic strategy used and
highlight issues relating to the inherent inconsistencies and
mediocre quality of the various data sources and the role of
statisticians in this Inquiry and their contribution to the final
Inquiry Report.
