We are doing a story on Internet "universities" that offer no instruction but sell higher education degrees, ranging from BAs to PhDs. Several of these outfits say on their web sites that they are located in the U.K. or Ireland. I thought because of your position with the Student Records Officers' Conference, you may have heard about some of the outfits in which we are particularly interested: Glencullen University, Harrington University, University of Palmers Green, University of Devonshire, Shelbourne University and Brentwick University. They all seem to be operated by the same group. Another recent addition to the list is the University of Wexford, supposedly located in Zurich. If you perhaps know of anyone who is familiar with these operations or have studied them, we would very much like to speak with him or her. Sincerely, David Colker Los Angeles Times (213) 237-7496
