Yes I'm sorry to say that I did misunderstand your point, for which I
apologise.
The problem of media scares prompting patients to request tests on
themselves will not go away. If we turn these patients away they
can use one of the many dubious internet services on offer.
A solution might be to offer such tests privately. After all even
hypochondriacs get ill sometimes. At least they would spend their
money in a properly accredited laboratory instead of enriching an
internet quack.
