Request for Information on QC set-up within laboratories:

As part of an on-going computerisation project into Laboratory internal
Quality Control (QC) I would be very grateful if as many people as possible
would please supply me with the following information concerning handling of
QC results within your individual laboratories. Please address replies to me
directly (e-mail address as below). Replies are welcomed from labs outside
the UK as well as from within.

Only general statistics on replies, rather than individual replies, will be
used (anonymously) in my final report and no replies will be passed onto any
third party. The questions are generally aimed at trying to discover what
the main problems are with visualisation of your QC data and ease of access
to same. If there are any areas you would like to expand on please feel free
- all contributions are welcomed. Most of the questions are one-word answers
but a few require your comments.

[1] Is QC handled centrally within your laboratory by one or more
individuals, or does each section look after its own QC?
[2] How is your QC plotted? [Software/Hard-copy only]
[3] What software is used for QC plotting/analysis (if any)?
[4] How is your QC data acquired by the QC Software (where applicable)?
[%Automatic/%Manual]
[5] What are the main problems with your current QC system?
[6] Can your departments QC be viewed centrally (this question applies
equally to departments spread across physically separate sites)?
[7] If the answer to Q6 is 'NO', would you like to be able to view the
departments QC centrally?
[8] What do you think are the main problems with your current plots? [e.g.
inability to print, inability to view more than one control/test/analyser
simultaneously, too difficult to plot, maintenance too high, etc.]
[9] Do you have access to a hospital/lab Intranet site?
[10] Do you have PCs in most sections of your laboratory?
[11] Do your PCs already have a Browser installed (such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer / Netscape Navigator)?

Again, your help with this survey would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Best regards, Billy Graham.
