Postdoctoral position at Steacie Institute in Ottawa:
Nonlinear spectroscopy of biomolecules at interfaces

A postdoctoral position is available in the area of second harmonic
spectroscopy of biomolecules at interfaces. As part of a project entitled
"structure and organization of peptides in self-assembled biomimetic
membranes", it is planned to investigate second harmonic generation -
circular dichroism (SHG-CD) spectroscopy of peptides and proteins
immobilized on planar surfaces including model membranes. Highly motivated
individuals with an interest in chiroptical studies of biomolecules are
encouraged to apply. Relevant expertise includes biomolecular spectroscopy,
fluorescence microscopy, interfacial nonlinear optics, and femtosecond laser
techniques.

The position is available at the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences
(SIMS) of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa. SIMS is
well equipped with state-of-the-art laser facilities and offers a
stimulating and dynamic environment for scientific research. Information
about SIMS can be found at www.sao.nrc.ca/sims. The postdoctoral program at
SIMS is administered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
Council of Canada (NSERC) under the heading "Visiting Fellowships in
Canadian Government Laboratories (VF)" (www.nserc.ca). Eligibility criteria
include application within 5 years of graduation from Ph.D. studies.

Inquiries should be addressed to Steve Mitchell:
