Dear Colleagues:

The BGA aims to organise three meetings a year, and in addition invites
members to organise meetings on geophysics-relevant subjects. The BGA now
has funds for invited speakers. The three meetings are:

  Bullerwell Lecture
To be given each year by an outstanding young British geophysicist, as a
major lecture at the European Geophysical Society annual meeting in Nice,
France.
  Advances in Geophysics
A two-day meeting to be organised each year as the Royal Astronomical
Society's February "G" meeting, the theme to be a "hot topic" of geophysics,
chosen each year.
  Postgraduate Research in Geophysics
A one- or two-day meeting to be held at a university with an active
postgraduate geophysics programme, in September or October of each year.
Further information at www.geophysics.org.uk

The 2002 Bullerwell Lecturer will be Professor Martin Sinha, University of
Southampton. EGS, Nice April 23rd.

The first Advances in Geophysics meeting will be held at the Royal
Astronomical Society, February, 2003. The title of the meeting will be
Planetary Geophysics.

The first Postgraduate Research in Geophysics meeting will be held in
Southampton. September 10th-12th, 2002, Southampton Oceanography Centre,
University of Southampton. Details to be announced. This year's meeting is
organised by Dr. Jon Bull [log in to unmask], Martin Gutowski and Sue Taylor.
Please pass this message to your graduate students so they are aware of this
meeting. It will be a chance to meet other UK Ph.D students in geophysics
and give a presentation to their peers and get feedback from leading
academics.
