I don't have the opportunity to chase this down right now but I believe I
remember somewhere in Gregory of Tours' History there is an account of a
hermit who took up residence on a column devoted to Diana in order to
"christianize" it.  He was evicted by the local ecclesiastic authorities who
did not approve of the idea.
