medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Today (24. December) is the feast day of:

Delphinus of Bordeaux (d. c. 402) Delphinus became bishop of Bordeaux in
c. 379. He was in contact with many leading churchmen of his time,
including Paulinus of Nola, whom he had converted and baptized.

Tarsilla (d. late 6th cent.) Tarsilla was the aunt of Gregory the Great.
She and her sisters Aemiliana and Gordiana (also regarded as saints)
consecrated their lives to God and were highly regarded for their holiness
by contemporaries. In a vision Tarsilla saw her own upcoming death.

Mochua of Timahoe (d. c. 657) Mochua was a soldier from Connacht who
converted to monasticism as a young man. He founded several monasteries,
most notably Derinish (Co. Cavan).

Irmina (d. c. 708) Irmina (Irma) was a noble Frank, the mother of two
other saints (Adela and Plektrudis). After her husband's death, Irmina
gave a portion of her estates in Echternach to the missionary bishop
Willibrord. Irmina herself became the second abbess of Ohren in Trier
(later renamed St. Irminen after her).

Adela (d. c. 734) Adela, probably the daughter of Irmina, was born in c.
670. In c. 700 she founded the convent of Pfalzel in the diocese of Trier
and became the first abbess. Her nephew was Gregory of Utrecht.
