medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Today (18. November, which doesn't seem to have attracted many saints) is
the feast day of:

Mawes (Maudez) (6th cent.) Mawes was from Wales. He lived for a time in
Cornwall as a hermit, then moved to Brittany, where perhaps he worked as a
missionary bishop. Legend reports that he was a charistmatic teacher and
was widely venerated. After his death, his cult was strong in Brittany for
centuries---over 60 churches there were or are dedicated to Mawes.

Odo of Cluny (d. 942) Odo was the second abbot of the reform monastery of
Cluny, and is credited with shaping both the monastery and the course of
the Cluniac reform. Odo was born in c. 878, probably in Aquitaine. His
career started as a canon in Tours, but in c. 906 he entered the monastery
of Baume. He followed Abbot Berno from Baume to the new monastery of
Cluny. It is Odo who began to receive other monasteries for reform, which
were placed under his authority as abbot of Cluny. Odo also won a great
reputation for asceticism, humility, and care for the poor and sick.
