Dear Colleagues,

You will probably have seen details of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain Winter Meeting in Derby, England, 7th-9th January 2002. The Metamorphic Studies Group (MSG) will be running three sessions on the theme of "Time, Transition & Tectonics". During the meeting the MSG will be offering two prizes for student contributions:-

i) A prize of £ST50.00 for the best oral or poster presentation by a research postgraduate student.

ii) A prize of up to £ST150.00 for the best poster presentation of metamorphic project work by an undergraduate student. Lecturers supervising undergraduate projects in metamorphic geology are requested to encourage their students to present their work at the meeting. The work may be done by individuals or groups. Students wishing to enter the competition should inform the MSG Secretary [log in to unmask] by Friday 7th December, giving the names of the author(s), the title of the project and their university / college address. Full details of the competition rules and a publicity poster are available from the Winter Meeting website. Please display the poster in a prominent position!

The prizes may only be offered to students in higher education instititutions in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Authors who presented abstracts for the cancelled MSG RIP meeting in Glasgow last March are invited to present their talks/posters at the Winter Meeting. Please contact the convener for the session in which you would like your paper to be presented. The MSG Annual General Meeting will be held during the Winter Meeting. Details to follow later.
