The use of high dose diazepam for the treatment of chloroquine poisoning is quoted by Toxbase. "Diazepam (2 mg/kg body weight intravenously over 30 min) may have a protective effect in severe poisoning but should probably only be used in combination with assisted ventilation." I understand that it, "protects the heart" from the toxic effects of the drug. My question is could it have a similar effect in tricyclic overdose? Regards Ray McGlone A&E Lancaster
