National Mapping
Programme/Aerial Survey Planning

up to £22,194 p.a.

Fascinated by aerial photographs and aerial archaeology? We are seeking an enthusiastic aerial archaeologist to complete English Heritage's National Mapping Programme (NMP) in Essex. The work involves mapping of features from aerial photographs, and their classification using a computerised database.

When the mapping of Essex has been completed you will be involved in a substantial amount of data analysis prior to the compilation of two major reports, one of which is envisaged as a monograph in the East Anglian Archaeology series. A key aspect of the work is the development of aerial survey and integrating this with the NMP. You will also be expected to develop the use of remote sensing techniques and their use within Geographic Information Systems. You will require a degree in archaeology, or a related discipline, and experience in archaeological aerial survey and post-reconnaissance. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems will be an advantage. In addition you will possess good report writing, communication and team-working skills.
