Nordic-Scottish University Network for Rural and Regional Development
invites for the 5th annual conference on rurality in a Nordic-Scottish
context.

The conference will be held at Roedding Folk High School in Denmark,
September 6th- 9th 2001

The conference focuses on:

* Rurality in a Nordic- Scottish Context. How do we define and
understand rurality in our individual national context? Do we speak about
the same subject?
Keynote speaker: Prof. John Bryden, The Arkleton Centre, Aberdeen
University (Scotland)

* Policy and Politics in Rural and Regional Development. Local,
regional, rural, agricultural etc. Policy and politics have different
approaches. Do these approaches supply or oppose each other?
Keynote speaker: Senior research fellow Lars Olof Persson, Nordregio,
Stockholm (S)

* New Paradigms for Rural Development: Organic Free Zones etc.
Empowering resources and qualifications. The transformations of passive
areas to developing areas.
Keynote speaker: Senior lecturer Jan Holm Ingemann, Aalborg University
(DK)

These themes are discussed and illustrated through

* Workshops: Converting Research into Policy

* Excursion: Sustainability in Praxis

The conference caters for researchers and development workers in the Nordic
countries and Scotland, working with rural and regional development.

Latest possible registration for the conference is the 20th of August 2001.

Organisers are the Danish Centre for Rural Research and Development
supported by the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southern
Denmark.
