italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

The Center for Italian Studies at Stony Brook announces a fall conference
on:


"The Life and Legacy of Mother Cabrini, Saint of Immigrants"


October 12 & 13 2001


Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, a naturalized citizen from Italy, was the
first American officially proclaimed a Saint of the Catholic Church. She
was tireless in her efforts to assist Italian immigrants, making numerous
visits to Italian American centers throughout America and initializing
schools, orphanages, and hospitals.


We welcome paper proposals on any number of topics, including but not
limited to:


Early life in Italy
Mother Cabrini and the saga of human migration
Founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Missionary work of the Order
Mother Cabrini as an advocator of a gradual assimilation process for
immigrants
Mother Cabrini, preserver of cultural identity
The Mother of the sick and needy immigrants
Her focus on the need of meditation and prayer
