Richard Thomson Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health ACADEMIC PUBLIC HEALTH TRAINING UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY & PUBLIC HEALTH SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND PUBLIC HEALTH TRAINING PROGRAMME (NORTHERN AND YORKSHIRE) LECTURER (HONORARY)/SPECIALIST REGISTRARS IN PUBLIC HEALTH MEDICINE (UP TO 3 POSTS) The University Department seeks medical graduates committed to public health research and teaching for appointment to up to three Lecturer (Honorary) / Specialist Registrars in Public Health Medicine. The appointees will be based in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health: . Help administer and deliver undergraduate teaching in Public Health Sciences or postgraduate teaching on the MSc in Health Sciences. . Contribute to the Department's research activity in one of its established programmes. . Participate in the Northern & Yorkshire regional training scheme in public health medicine. The Department has lively programmes of research in epidemiology (particularly stroke, coronary heart disease and environmental epidemiology) and health promotion (focusing primarily on approaches to the development and evaluation of interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease). We see two potential routes into an academic career through the Regional Training Programme. In the first, successful candidates will have Part I MFPHM and be working towards Part II and CCST in public health. They will be substantially based in the academic department from appointment. In the second, successful candidates will be entry level SpR appointments to the regional training programme. They will initially start with a service attachment, which will prepare them for Part I. During this time they will be attached to a district, but will have additional teaching commitments in the academic department, dependent upon previous experience. After Part I, and completion of necessary service attachment, their base will transfer to the academic department.
