                              Interpreting medical research articles:
                                       A practical approach

                           A short course to be held in central London.
                            Two Saturday afternoons 7 and 14 July 2001.

What is the aim of this course?
To provide an introduction to understanding and interpreting published
research articles and reports in medical and other health care journals.

Who is it for?
It is suitable for people working in the health service and those engaged in
medical research.

What is the content?
To address the following:
·What is the study for (identify the research question)?
·How was the study conducted (design features)?
·What are the main results (interpretation of analyses)?
·How good is the evidence (strengths and weaknesses of the study)?
·What does the study contribute to medical practice?

What is the structure of the course?
It will take place over two consecutive Saturday afternoons (1.00-5.30pm)
and involve a mixture of seminars and small group discussions led by 3
instructors. All topics covered are based entirely on papers published in
medical journals.


The fee is £120, including course materials and afternoon refreshments.
