Dear Dr. Jones,
Polemius is the Greek equivalent of Bellator
('warrior'), from Greek 'polemos' or Latin 'bellum.' It could be (though I have
no evidence, this is only a working hypothesis) an assumed Christian name, such
as 'stercorarius', 'asellus', etc. Bellator was one of the translators of
Cassiodorus' team at Vivarium. By the by, why were Chrysanthus and Daria
'supposed'? Their relics were considered real enough to be translated to
Muenstereifel in the 9th century - was it all a fake? Thanks,
