medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear all

Thanks to Juris, but we still don't have the why and wherefore -- if it is to be had at all. The
guy died of old age, bless him! So what did he do that got him sainted, apart from hearsay?
Anything? I see nothing in Martin of Tours or later writers. Can we pin Martin of Braga down to
just one teeny miracle, or do we simply say he was yet another 'called' saint? Perhaps in the
same way that Peter Kropotkin was the anarchist formerly known as 'Prince'? I personally would
saint him if just for his minutes of the first Braga council, where I wish I'd been a fly on the
wall -- ain't that NICE tight, driven Senecan Latin? If you're Priscillian don't you just want to
come out with your hands up like Butch and Sundance? Be reasonable!

As before, read the letter of Aristeas, snip off that dreadful septuagint drivel, then see what
you're left with for the second half.

Oy vey! That eastern mediterranean pool!

Angus, Oman
