Apologies for cross - posting: Preliminary Announcement One day Conference Evidence into Practice: Challenges and opportunities for UK public health 3 April 2001 Royal College of Physicians, London The Health Development Agency <http://www.hda-online.org.uk> and the Kings Fund <http://www.kingsfund.org.uk> are working in partnership to organise a major one-day conference to bring together public health stakeholders to begin to identify potential solutions to the challenges raised by the new public health agenda. The conference will consider the different views, practices and projects around evidence for effectiveness within UK public health work and provide a forum to debate the opportunities and barriers to evidence-based public health practice. The aims of the conference are: * to bring together key players in research and public health practice * to provide a platform for debate on theories, models and frameworks that underpin evidence-based public health * to discuss the range and relevance of various methodologies available for evaluating public health effectiveness and practice * to identify core questions that need to be answered to support practitioners contributing to a reduction in health inequalities * to identify gaps in research and knowledge that can inform future R&D programmes * consider appropriate ways of furthering work on evidence for UK public health The conference will comprise keynote presentations from leading experts in the field followed by chaired discussions on the following themes: * what are the boundaries of evidence for public health? * how can we best make judgements about effectiveness from public health evidence? * what are the most appropriate ways of disseminating evidence and supporting evidence-based practice?
