4th International Summer University at Freie Universitaet Berlin, FUBiS 2001

We are pleased to announce the 4th International Summer University at Freie
Universitaet Berlin (Germany), which will take place from July 21st  through
August 17th 2001.

The Program
FUBiS is an intensive four week summer program offering eightteen
fully-credited courses covering topics on Berlin, Germany, and Europe. The
disciplines represented in the course offerings are drawn from the fields of
Contemporary History, Political Science, Law, German Studies, Creative
Writing, Urban Anthropology, Art History, Media Studies and German as a
Foreign Language. All courses will be taught in English. All courses include
excursions within the Berlin area either as part of the presentations or as
an additional offer. In concluding colloquia,  students will discuss the
themes of the courses in an interdisciplinary setting.

10      Advanced German Language Instruction
11      Creative Writing - Travel Memoir
12      The Political Development in Germany after World War II
13      The Third Reich: Seduction and Terror
14      The Radical Right in Germany and Beyond
15      Environmental Policy in Germany and Europe
16      A Peoples' Union? European Integration and the Nation State
17      A Peoples' Union? European Integration and External Relations
18      International Cooperation between Western and Eastern Europe

Credits
Each participant will receive a certificate granting 4 credits, which can be
transferred to his/her home university.


Eligibility
Admission requirements are two years of college.


Costs
The tuition fee for each course is DM 1,200.-. There is an additional
onetime registration fee of DM 150.-. The overall expenses for the planned
excursions per course will approximately amount to DM 100,--.


Application Deadline
The application deadline is May 15, 2001. Later registrants cannot be
guaranteed a place given the limits on course participation. A registration
