DC-General folks,

We are pleased to announce that DCMI has contracted with Makx Dekkers to
provide project management services to the Initiative beginning March 1,
2001. Makx's strong background in standards management and history of
participation in DCMI make him superbly qualified to help DCMI reach its
goals and deliver recommendations and guidelines more effectively.

DCMI has had a strong international flavor since its early days, and we feel
that Makx's European experiences and perspective will further strengthen
DCMI management.

Makx has been involved in development and implementation of standards for
information networking since the mid-eighties. He contributed to the
development of standards such as Z39.50/ISO SR for search and retrieve, ISO
ILL for interlibrary loan and the GEDI standard for electronic document
interchange. He became involved in Dublin Core activities in 1997 and has
been a member of the Dublin Core Advisory Committee since 1998.

Makx worked at Pica in the Netherlands until 1997 where he was involved in a
number of major European co-operation projects and managed the development
and deployment of networked information services.

At Price Waterhouse Coopers from 1997, he has been consulting to the
European Commission, the European Committee for Standardisation CEN,
co-operative library projects in Italy and Greece, and several projects
under the EC framework programmes for Research and Technological
Development. Since early 2000, he is the overall project manager for the
SCHEMAS project. Other areas that he has been involved in include Trust and
Confidence and Cultural Diversity in IT-based products and services.

Makx is a Dutch national with a university degree in Theoretical Chemistry,
Computer Science and History of Science from the University of Utrecht, and
lives and works in Luxembourg. He has worked in Dutch, English, French,
German and Italian and has varying competences in a number of other
languages.

Welcome, Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Boa vinda, Benvenuto, Makx!
