Dear Robin

I suggest you try Equus: The horse in the Roman World by Ann Hyland as a strting point. If you want to look at classical sources try Cato, Varro and Columella. I can't think of any particular sites off the top of my head but most roman sites turn up at least a few horse bones. If I come across any good sites in my work I'll forward you the references. As I am also working on horses in the roman world perhaps you could forward me any other replies you get as I would be interested too.

  Dear All,

Can anyone tell me of any sites/references with evidence for the breeding of horses during the Roman period?

  Many thanks for any information,
