Information age technology has supported the American economy despite the loss of our production capabilities to the Third World but that ride may actually be winding down. Today's cheapest computers are fast enough to fill most needs. What's bringing on the current recession is people are realizing that the.com mania was an empty promise and prices are so low on computer products that the profit is going out of high-tech. Today's information age tools can trim back the bloated consumer go shopping life stile and make all aspects of our country is economy more competitive. We must eliminate the waste built into the consumer go shopping life stile if we are to be competitive in the global economy. Internet technology is part of the formula that makes it possible for most people to live and work near home. The savings generated by not commuting or going shopping as often can revitalize our economy. This is the one direction that will not just save the economy but will actually improve on the American dream adding to quality of our lives helping create community in neighborhoods where neighbors used to live in isolation. We must look closer at how those web ordered items can be delivered most efficiently. Also we must look at how we can successfully replace the social experience of going shopping going and going to work with community activities closer to home in the neighborhoods. We need to experiment with new more efficient systems and when these systems are perfected we need to add them to all neighborhoods. These systems must offer: efficient neighborhood package moving systems to make home delivery inexpensive and convenient rentable transportation so families don't need to own so many cars efficient homes for those who are short of cash food systems including restaurants and co-ops There is a 90 % potential gain in efficiency possible with virtual neighborhoods due to the fact that most people don't need to commute to work or go shopping thanks to information technology. The price for this improvement will be less than free for many people who move to new virtual neighborhoods!
