Implementing an effective departmental learning, teaching and
assessment strategy
29th November
led by Trevor Habeshaw
****************************************************************
Background
The 1999 initiative by HEFCE which encouraged Institutions to prepare
and submit to them a 'Learning & Teaching Strategy' was successful in
generating a good deal of organisational thinking and action which is
now being replicated in schools, faculties and departments. This
workshop will help these latter groups to carry the initiative
forward at the next level, with attention to particular problems that
may arise within art and design.

Aims:
The aims of the workshop are:
* to discuss the process of producing a college-based learning,
teaching and assessment strategy;
* to exchange ideas on ways in which the distinctive characters of
the colleges can be sustained during the process;
* to identify and plan ways in which colleagues within the colleges
can be encouraged (a) to participate in the process of creation of
their strategy, and (b) to take ownership of it in their ongoing
programmes of work.
* bearing in mind the many other demand on colleagues, to devise a
realistic action plan whereby the whole process can be successfully
managed.

About the leader
He is an experienced consultant having worked in many universities
and higher education institutions in the UK, Sweden and Australia,
both for his own consultancy.
