LONDON JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING GROUP ----------------------------------------- Supported by City University, London Guildhall University & University College London ----------------------------------------- The final seminar in this term's series will be on the 12th December, and will be by Peter McBurney, Department of Computer Science, University of Liverpool, UK. (Web-page: http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~peter/) Details are below. TITLE: Automated decision-making using argumentation. ABSTRACT: Artificial Intelligence has progressed to the point where it is possible for systems of autonomous software entities ("agents") to engage in collaborative reasoning and decision-making tasks. Applications of such systems include the management of telecommunications networks, the operation of air-traffic control systems and automated e-commerce. Most current systems use fairly simple protocols, such as economic auction mechanisms, for these agent interactions. I present research using formal dialogue games, first developed by philosophers of argumentation such as Aristotle, as the basis for agent interaction and decision-making. The talk will not stress the computational technicalities. As usual, the talk will be at 5pm in Room 313, Dept of Psychology, University College London, Bedford Way. Tea and coffee are provided. All are welcome.
