Working to the Science Events Manager, the Science Events Officer (National Science Week) will work alongside the Science Events Officer (BA Festival of Science) and will occasionally assist with this event. Responsibilities will include: · liaising closely with the wider team in the division and across other divisions at all levels · developing National Science Week as appropriate for the 21st century · assisting the Manager in producing estimates and budgets · identifying and disseminating best practice to potential organizers · maintaining and developing an effective relationship with the organizers of National Science Week events around the country · organising events around the country in liaison with BA regional officers and branches to stimulate potential organizers to run events · assisting in devising and running BA events during National Science Week · coordinating and collating the National Science Week programme of events · devising and implementing a dissemination strategy for the programme · advising on web access to the programme · developing a marketing strategy for National Science Week in liaison with relevant staff in the Science Communication and External Affairs divisions · providing materials for those responsible for PR · other tasks as required by the Manager or Director The position is offered on a three-year contract in the first instance. The salary will be in the range of £18 000 - 22 000 depending on experience. From time to time the job entails working extended hours particularly in the run up to National Science Week in February/March and during the Festival of Science in September. PERSON SPECIFICATION SCIENCE EVENTS OFFICER (National Science Week) The successful candidate will ideally · have excellent interpersonal skills · have some experience and skill in event coordination and management · have experience of working on numerous tasks in parallel · be flexible and able to consider and suggest new approaches · have successful experience of liaising closely with numerous stakeholders · be able to prepare clear, concise briefing materials and instructions · be educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in a science or social science subject) · have an interest in working in a science-based organisation · be comfortable dealing with people at all levels within the organisation and externally · have some knowledge of the science and/or science communication communities · be a self starter able to work independently and as part of a team · consider presentation to be important · be computer literate · be available to start work as soon as possible
