If you are planning to collect samples for DNA extraction I would suggest drying the samples in Electrophoretic Grade Silica Gel. A colleague of mine uses that protocol when freezing tissue is not an option. Also it does not interrupt DNA extraction. By the way, do you know of any graduate school opportunities at your university for sponge research? I would like to apply there but I do not know about any research that is going on there. Denise M.
