I did employ the term 'great poet' nor 'not a great poet' in respect of
roger mcgough, I was griping about the prevalence of very light verse on the
extremely small amount of time the BBC begrudges to poetry in its airtime.
30 years ago, when roger mcgough was at least writing good light verse,
instead of almost doggerel, you could hear both him and the likes of the
elderly David Jones or a young Peter Reading or W.S. Grahame or other poets
from multiple points of the spectrum in the same slots.

As for whether I think I know what a real poet is: No, of course I don't, I
rely on other people to tell me, obviously.
