Curious all these paeans to cop shows. And a reminder maybe of the way TV
can surgically remove people's critical faculties as surely most cop shows
convey political or social agendas that are of a distinctly right wing
character, such as the Hill Street Blues/NYPD family.

Some of the British examples attempt artistic respectability, with squiggles
of art-cinema camera angles (as in Inspector Morse) and play-length two hour
slots. But the reality of them is that Britain still has a pool of repertory
character actors who have sufficient skill to convey an illusion of
psychology to parts that are little more than bundles of twitching
stereotypes.
