I should add that the Australian team were extremely sporting about it, shaking Butcher's hand when he got his century. The general opinion in the press here is that they *were* a bit relieved to have some real opposition for a change. And of course comparisons with Botham were inevitable given the date and venue, but there was also something about the way he played - by the end you just knew he would swing at anything remotely hittable in the complete confidence it would go for runs.
