Call Me Ishmael is tricky as a reference -- there's the Charles Olsen short
book (on MD) of that title.  My tiny tired brain is becoming confused.

But what about the +rest+ of Melville (for those too short of space and time
to harpoon the whale?) --  "Benidetto Cereno" [sp?], _Billy Budd_,
"Bartletby" ...

The man wrote like an angel -- Moby hyphen-or-not Dick has to rate with _The
Brothers Karamazov_.

What has Britland to compare?  _Tristram Shandy_ has the tone but not the
substance.  Most British novels from the 18thC on are the higher gossip.

Not often we here have cause to REALLY envy the Americans, but the great
white whale has to be one ...

[Incidentally, was it Bradbury who did a radio-play SF rewrite?  Harpoon
that comet ...]
