DEADLINES Abstract (200 words) July 1, 2001 Full paper (10 pages) : October 1, 2001 Acceptance notification : December 20, 2001 Final paper (10 pages) : February 1, 2002 We are very happy to invite you to the 4th International Conference on Integrated Design and Manufacturing in Mechanical Engineering (IDMME) will be held at IFMA (Institut Français de Mécanique Avancée) in Clermont-Ferrand, France, from May 14th -16th 2002. The previous IDMME conferences were held in Nantes (France) in 1996, Compiègne (France) in 1998 and Montréal (Canada) in 2000 and were sponsored by PRIMECA (Pôle de Ressources Informatiques pour la Mécanique) with the participation of CIRP (International Institution for Production Engineering Research), IFToMM (International Federation for the Theory of Machines and Mechanisms), CSMA (Computational Structural Mechanics Association), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineering), SCGM / CSME (Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering) and AFM (Association Française de Mécanique). Each one of those conferences brought together between 250 and 300 participants. Following the first three IDMME conferences, the purpose of the IDMME 2002 conference is to present recent developments and new areas within the product and process development theme. In addition to research results, special attention will be paid to educational and training aspects and industrial applications. Sections will include plenary lectures, oral presentations and posters. A technical exhibition will be organized. The general theme of the conference is the integration and optimization of product design and manufacturing systems including the following topics: a) OPTIMIZATION OF THE PRODUCT DESIGN PROCESS (design for manufacturing and global optimization, product and process configuration management, representation and integration of design constraints including greening design, integration and coupling of models, integration of CAD and CAE models). b) OPTIMIZATION OF MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS (modelling of processes, rapid prototyping and tooling, modelling and design for manufacturing, modelling for control and inspection, process planning, CAM and off line programming, CAM and optimal parameters in manufacturing process). c) METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS (Computational geometry in design and manufacturing, concurrent engineering, integrated design and CAD/CAM systems, object modelling, feature-based modelling, design and communication, design and innovation, robust and reliable design, interfaces, technical data exchanges, distributed CAD, cooperative systems, intelligent agents). Those wishing to present a paper at the IDMME 2002 should submit a short abstract of up to 200 words. The abstract should be written in English and in French. It serves as a pre-inscription. The paper selection will be made on the basis of the full text, each paper being anonymously reviewed by two members of the International Scientific Committee. Contributors are requested to submit to the conference secretariat the abstract (before July 1, 2001) and the full paper in English or in French (before October 1, 2001) by e-mail (pdf format).
